I love the book Twas The Night Before Christmas. I can recite if from memory. One of the lines in the book says "He looks like a peddler opening his sack." I'm not sure why this line kept playing over and over in my mind, so I thought I'd have fun turning it into a blog.
Picture a peddler. My image of a peddler is an older person half bent over with a very heavy bag. Now picture yourself as the peddler, what is in your sack? Is it filled with regret and "what ifs". If you put a stone in your sack for each regret: maybe you didn't send time with God today, you lost your temper in traffic or with one of your kids, you forgot to call someone, you said something you shouldn't have. I could go on and on and that is just one day. Is your sack getting heavy? What about the "what ifs" from today. What if I didn't eat that extra cookie, left work early to spend time with love ones, you called that friend, started your day with God. I could go on but is your sack getting heavy? All those stones must be heavy, hard to stand up straight.
We need to remove those stones daily. To do that we need to give them over to God. We are told to give our burdens to God He will carry the load. So turn you sack over. Ask God each morning to direct your paths and meet your needs. Don't forget to give God all the glory for your day.
