Candy Cane

I'm just mad at this world so I am praying. Today I was reading my Children's Ministry magazine and came across this short article.

Candy Cane Crackdown

The U.S. supreme Court recently considered a case involving a fifth-grade student whose candy-cane themed classroom project was considered offensive and subject to censorship by school officials.

Eleven-year-old Joel Curry made candy cane ornaments with an attached note titled, "The Meaning of the Candy Cane," which made reference to Jesus six times and God twice. Curry' classroom assignment was to develop and "sell" a product. Though he received an A on the assignment, school officials made him remove the religious message from the ornaments.

"Penalizing Christian students for expressing their beliefs in the classroom is unacceptable under the Constitution," said Jeff Shafer, senior legal counsel on the case. However, a 6th Circuit Court ruled that religious speech by students is "offensive" and is legitimately subject to censorship.

This just makes me mad. My kids heard all kind of language on the bus and at sporting events. When they were in high school their was major construction going on and they were open to many things that were offensive to me.

If this child beliefs on religion is offensive to others then those kids didn't need to "buy" the candy cane. Stop taking our beliefs away just so you can push your beliefs on us.

OK so now I ranted. Now lets pray for Christians to be able to live their beliefs and not what is being force on us.
