Walking The Dog

I saw something on TV that reminded me of the fun I had when we took our dog with us to visit our friends (they have have 2 puppies) who live in a wooded area this past fall. First to say we took our dog is a major task as she gets car sick. We had to give her meds and she still got sick as we pulled into their driveway. OK back to the topic.

Deb and I decided to take the dogs for a walk through the woods. We let them run free,no leash. There was a clear path but the dogs would run ahead, going side to side. Some times they would wonder off the path. We would call the dogs and get them back on the path. They usually responded quickly. However if they saw something that looked appealing we would have to call them a few times and get firmer with our voices.

Now I got to thinking. We are just like this with God. God doesn't keep us on a leash He lets us run free to make choices of our own but is always walking with us to keep us safe. We often run ahead of Him and He will call us to slow down. Then are the times we wonder off track and He calls us back. But there are also the times something worldly can hold our interest and we don't hear God or don't want to hear God.

An interesting side note. When we got back from our walk we sat down in a grassy area to rest. We weren't sitting long when a snake started slithering right up to me. Deb, the dogs and I moved quickly into the house.

Isaish 30:21
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."

Psalms 32:8
will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
