My Plans For You

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Many of us know this verse but I came to a new understanding of this verse this week end at the Marriage conference.

So often we see things in our mates we would like to change. We either pray God help them change or Lord show me how to help them change.

First let's look at the beginning of this verse. God has a plan for you. That doesn't apply to you only that applies to your mate too. So what right does that give us to ask God to change our mate. What we should be praying is "God show me the plans you have for my mate." "Let me see my mate the way you see my mate."

Now look at the second part. God's plans are to prosper, not to harm you, and give you hope, a future. These are all very good things so why would we want anything different for our mate?

If we could see them the way God does we would see them and love them even with there faults. Let God work out their faults. Why should we try to do something that God may not want changed in our mate right now. Maybe that thing we want changed is part of God's plans for our life to change us someway.

So next time you think your mate is doing something that bugs you. Ask God to let you see your mate the way He sees your mate.

Amen!
God started working with me on this several years ago.
I am still learning that when I look at my husband with my earthly eyes he will always come up lacking.
I am glad God is teaching me to use my spiritual eyes.
