Change Me!

Did you ever think about how hard it is to pray "Change me Lord"? We all see things in our lives we would like to change. But to ask God to change some of those things is hard. We have a fear of what God might put us though to change us. Then there are times he is trying to change us but we resist thinking God wouldn't be asking me to do that! There are the times we will say Lord change him or her. Because who knows what God would want me to do if I say change me.

So I got to thinking. What are we striving for in change. Isn't to be like Christ? Think of some of Christ characteristic.
Loving, Humble, Faithful, Giving, Obedient, Forgiving, Friend, Peaceful, Comforter Trustworthy,...
oh the list could go on and on.

So why don't we pray "Lord, make me more like Christ." Doesn't that make you feel more at ease? As you become more like Christ, God is changing you.

1 John 3:16
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Philippians 2:8
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Being more like Jesus can be a long drawn out process and an uncomfortable. But in the long run when you finally come up out of the valley of the shadow of death--it is so worth it.
