Peace Like A River

Isaiah 48:18 says:
If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

This verse was in my Beth Moore Breaking Free homework today. I never thought about peace like a river before.

When I heard the word peace I use to think, calm, quite, and relaxing. But Beth asks us to think of what a river is like. It is moving water not a stand still pond. It goes over rough waters like rapids. There are rocks that block the waters flow and changes it direction.

So peace is like a river. It isn't the calm, quite and relaxing way all the time like I thought it was. It takes me thought the rough times and changes my directions. It is a constantly moving. How exciting that can be!

We know God is the Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 says
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

God is our peace! So since I have Christ in me, I have peace in me. I just need to activate the peace. How do I do that. Well I need to be spending time with God daily. I need to remain in Christ. I need to be obedient to God's will for my life and I will have Peace Like A River.

Thank you Awesome Lord for being my peace. My constant flowing Peace.

That was beautiful! It made me think about my very favorite hymn, "It Is Well with My Soul." The first words of the hymn start out with "When peace like a river attendeth my way..."
